Job seekers can take their search to Evans on Thursday.
The Georgia Department of Labor will hold its first Columbia County job fair from 9 a.m. until noon in the auditorium of the Evans Government Center on Ronald Reagan Drive.
Once inside the auditorium, those looking for a job will be able to visit 25 tables set up by local employers, said Manfred Edelmann, an employment marketing representative with the labor department's Augusta Career Center.
"Every employer that was asked to come has jobs," Edelmann said. "It's not an information fair."
The job fair is a way to support businesses in the county, Edelmann said, as well as to help residents find a job in a tough economy.
People should come "dressed for success" and bring copies of their resumes, Edelmann said.
"Be prepared to get hired," he said.
Edelmann recommends that people show up early for a good parking spot.
If the event is well-attended, Edelmann said the labor department will consider organizing another job fair within the county.
"If the turnout is successful and the employers want us back, we will gladly do it again," said Edelmann, who hopes for a crowd size of about 200 people.
Two other job fairs will be held nearby at Fort Gordon on Oct. 4 and in Augusta on Oct. 20.
