A day on the farm
Jim Steed, owner of Steeds Dairy, gave participants in the agri-tourism seminar a hayride tour of the farm. The tour, of Steed's Dairy in Grovetown, took place Thursday and included a visit from Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black. Steed's Dairy is the last working dairy in Columbia County and regularly provides tours for school groups and a corn maze in the fall.

These pets, and many others, are available for adoption from Columbia County Animal Services. For more information, call (706) 541-4077 or visit www.columbiacountyga.gov and follow the links to Animal Services. Adult animals cost $25 to adopt, and puppies and kittens cost $20. Animals must be spayed or neutered. Visitors must wear closed-in shoes to visit the kennel area, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. The facility is at 6337 Columbia Road in Appling.

Jump Rope for Heart
Cedar Ridge Elementary School participated in Jump Rope for Heart and raised more than $10,000. Cedar Ridge came in second place in 28 counties for amount raised. Fifth-grader Ryan Wallace, shown with Cedar Ridge PE teachers Laura Russ and Casey Allen, won the drawing for a new Trikke after participating in Jump Rope for Heart.
