Garden of promise
The Pioneer Garden Club of Harlem sponsored an outdoor garden complete with bird feeder at Cedar Ridge Elementary. The garden was designed by pupils to encourage environmental awareness and to teach math skills by having pupils calculate perimeter and area of the garden. Winter-hardy plants, such as violets, verbena, and an herb garden with thyme, rosemary, lavender and parsley were planted.
