Adult animals cost $25 to adopt, and puppies and kittens cost $20. Animals must be spayed or neutered. Visitors must wear closed-in shoes to visit the kennel area, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. The facility is at 6337 Columbia Road in Appling.

Miss Greenbrier
The winners of the Miss Greenbrier High School Scholarship Program, held Jan. 15, are D'Layne Deas, second runner-up; Ashley Duncan, Miss GHS; and Katie Balliew, first runner-up. Morgan Baura was selected Miss Photogenic, and Balliew was named Miss Congeniality. The winner received a $500 scholarship to the college of her choice.

Rice off to hot start with Augusta State
Former Evans High School standout second baseman Jeff Rice transferred to Augusta State University following a redshirt season with the Mercer University baseball team. The move brought Rice home, and it also meant playing time more quickly.
