Pet Adoption Showcase
These pets are available for adoption from Columbia County Animal Services. For more information, call (706) 541-4077 or visit www.columbiacountyga.gov and follow the links to Animal Services. Adult animals cost $25 to adopt, and puppies and kittens cost $20. Adopted animals must be spayed or neutered. Visitors must wear closed-in shoes to visit the kennel area, which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. The facility is at 6337 Columbia Road in Appling.

Donovan Godbee (left), the son of Marty and Kendra Godbee, and Brooks Machis, the son of Dan and Ruth Machis, received their Eagle Scout rank on Jan. 8. Donovan achieved the rank of Eagle on Aug. 25, 2010, two days before his 14th birthday. Brooks achieved the rank of Eagle on Sept. 22, 2010, at age 14. Troop 119 Scoutmaster Geoff Stewart presented the two with their Eagle awards. Both boys are freshmen at Greenbrier High School. Donovan completed a beautification project at Riverside Middle School for his Eagle Scout project, which included two benches, a birdhouse and a raised flower bed. Brooks built six benches for the Blanchard Woods walking path. Local businesses, along with Scouts from Troop 119, contributed materials and labor to help in their projects..
