Evans' Foreman exceeds expectations this season

I figured Evans High School guard Trevor Foreman would be one of the better basketball players in Columbia County this season, but I must admit he has surprised me a bit.

We should have seen it coming. Last season, Foreman served as the Knights' starting point guard and emerged as one of the area's best on-ball defenders. He played unselfishly and fit right into Kevin Kenny's system.

I saw him several times during the summer, and each time he was hard at work on his game. Foreman has a younger brother, Damian, who is a very talented ninth-grader at Evans, and his father is extremely dedicated to his kids. With those two live-in workout partners, Foreman was able to get in a lot of work in the off-season.

He first saw dividends on the football field. It had to help him that he stayed in such good shape, and he obviously got stronger since his junior campaign. It paid off on the gridiron. He went from being a unknown commodity to being one of the area's top receiving threats.

It is even more evident on the hardwood. The Knights needed their steady point guard to be more offensive-minded this season, and he has done just that. Foreman has been one of the most consistent scorers in the county thus far. He recently led Evans to the title in the Robolli's Christmas Classic, scoring a game-high 24 points in a 72-64 win over Grovetown in the championship game.

Foreman picked up Most Valuable Player honors for his efforts, and if he keeps up his consistent play he will be one of the leading candidates for county player of the year honors at the end of the season.

There is still no substitute for good, old-fashioned hard work, and Foreman's solid start to the hoops season is proof positive.

Final chance to submit players

If you have followed Columbia County basketball at any point during the past quarter century, you still have time to send in recommendations for the All-Columbia County Basketball team of the past 25 years. During the next couple of weeks I will be finalizing my selections, and would love readers' input. I have already been given some great suggestions, and I am trying my best to gather as much information and statistical data as I can on each player.

So, if you have a few names you feel deserve to make the list, send them to me at ab@wrdwam.com.
