One arrested in armed robbery
//
Police arrested a Martinez man on Thursday and were searching for another man in connection with a drug deal turned armed robbery in the parking lot of a Martinez restaurant Wednesday.
Devon John McRae, 18, of Wexford Drive, was charged with armed robbery and was being held in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.
A 27-year-old Martinez man called police claiming that he was robbed at gunpoint by McRae and Daiquan Lneil Johnson, 18, in the parking lot of Zaxby's at 510 Furys Ferry Road.
About 8 p.m., the man said, he and a 15-year-old female friend were sitting in a car in the parking lot when McRae and Johnson got into the back seat. The men pulled a gun on the pair and demanded their money, according to a Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident report.
The man met with McRae and Johnson to conduct a drug transaction, sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.
After he gave the robbers $279 in cash, the man said, they left in a purple Plymouth Breeze. The man provided police with the tag number, which led to McRae.
McRae was arrested at his home early Thursday. Police were looking Thursday for Johnson, of Shawns Way in Martinez, for questioning and possibly a third suspect, Morris said. Johnson also has an outstanding warrant for obstruction of a police officer.
The drug case is under investigation, Morris said. No charges had been filed on Thursday.
The following accounts were taken from reports from The Columbia County Sheriff's Office. Additional reports are available at www.columbia countyso.org:
Debit card stolen
An Evans woman told police Wednesday that someone used her debit card to spend more than $500 at Walmart.
The woman said that on Wednesday morning she had given her debit card to her daughter to use at the Monterrey restaurant in Evans. The woman said her daughter either dropped the card and lost it or it wasn't returned to her. The daughter told police she wasn't sure what happened to the card.
The woman said she checked her bank account and discovered a $4.25 charge for the Redbox at a Walmart store and $17.29 for gas at a Circle K. The card was declined when someone tried to use it to pay for more than $500 worth of merchandise at a Walmart store.
The woman reported the stolen card to the bank and closed the account.
Man says Facebook page defamed him
A Harlem man called police Monday after discovering comments on his daughter's Facebook page that he said defamed him.
The 46-year-old said he found several comments posted by the mother of his son accusing him of physically abusing the son.
The man said he had contacted his attorney, who told him to report the incident and get an arrest warrant through Magistrate Court.
Neighbor sees potential burglar
A Martinez man called police when he saw a suspicious vehicle leaving a neighboring vacant home Monday evening.
The man told police he saw a green sport utility vehicle parked in front of a Red Leaf Court home. When the SUV drove away with the headlights off, the man called police.
Police searched the home and found the back door unlocked. Part of the locking mechanism was removed.
The owner was notified and his son arrived to lock the home.
