The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is accepting real Christmas trees for recycling through today at Riverside Middle School on Furys Ferry Road in Evans. The county's Bring One for the Chipper recycling event will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at The Home Depot on North Belair Road in Evans.
Caregiver series
Today is the deadline to register for the Alzheimer's Association of Augusta's six-week education series, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, to be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. starting Tuesday at 1899 Central Ave. Class size is limited. For information, call Kathy Tuckey at (706) 731-9060.

Shoe donations
Augusta-area podiatrists are collecting new and used shoes to be distributed to those in need in the community. Donations can be delivered to any area podiatrist's office through Friday.
5K for Unicef
The 5K Run for UNICEF will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blanchard Woods Park's 5K trail. Cost is $10. Register early by e-mailing hilary.matfess@gmail.com or calling (706) 267-7966, or sign up on site 30 minutes before start time.
Parent's night
The Marshall Family Y will hold a Parent's Night Out for children ages 2-12 from 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday. Fitness activities, crafts and snacks will be provided. Cost is $10 per child for Family Y members and $15 for nonmembers. A free parent's night out for children of deployed military will be held 6-9:30 p.m. Jan. 22. Space is limited.
