Columbia County's Community Candlelight Christmas Service, sponsored by Mosaic United Methodist Church, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Columbia County amphitheater. The American Red Cross of Augusta is holding the holiday campaign Gifts That Save the Day through Dec. 31. It features a catalog with more that 20 gift ideas, including phone cards for military personnel and disaster cleanup kits for families. The Army Corps of Engineers will accept real Christmas trees, not artificial trees, for recycling through Jan 10. Trees can be dropped off at Riverside Middle School on Furys Ferry Road in Evans.
