Beer on county line

The sale of beer is still prohibited in Columbia County, but it is as close as it can get.

A petition to rezone property on the county line on Washington Road from "business and agricultural" to "neighborhood business" in order to permit the sale of beer was granted to Harry and Herbert Joe, owners of the 7-11 Minit Store in Martinez.

The county line comes directly through the store. Two-thirds of the building is in Columbia County, and one-third is in Richmond County. Beer sales will be made in the portion of the store that is in Richmond County.

Libby Swint, Harlem High School's homecoming queen, was crowned by 1963 Harlem queen Margy Lucky, now a freshman at Emory University.
