A tight game early turned into a rout Friday night as Lakeside's season came to a close with a 31-6 road loss to Ware County in a Region 2-AAAA play-in game.

With the win, the Gators (8-2) advance to the state playoffs.
The Panthers (4-6) gained more yardage in the defeat -- 332-303 -- but turned the ball over six times.
Lakeside quarterback Ben Wilson completed 13 of 30 pass attempts for 191 yards, but also threw four interceptions.
Johnathan Long led the way on the ground with 84 yards on 11 carries. Cade Hardin caught two passes for 90 yards.
Ware County, meanwhile, did most of its damage on the ground.
The Gators ran for 181 yards as Bernard Robertson led the way, carrying 19 times for 113 yards.
Lakeside trailed 3-0 after the first quarter and 17-0 at the half.
When quarterback Josh Bennett connected with Isa Lowe on a 69-yard flea flicker late in the third quarter, the Gators went up 31-0.
"We controlled the big plays," Ware County coach Ed Dudley said.
Lakeside scored its lone touchdown with 1:50 remaining on a 2-yard run by Wilson.
Ware County gained all of the momentum midway through the second quarter.
Still up 3-0, the Gators scored the game's first touchdown on a Bernard O'Roberts 3-yard run.
On Lakeside's next possession, William Golden blocked a punt to set up Ware County at the Lakeside 3-yard line.
Golden scored on the next play to put his team up 17-0.
Knights finish on high note
Glenn Cassedy threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns, leading Evans to a season-ending 24-14 win over Liberty County on Friday night.
Neither team could have advanced to the state playoffs with a victory.
Jamie Galvin kicked a 39-yard field goal and Trevor Foreman caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Cassedy in the first half. Still, Evans trailed 14-10 at the half.
In the fourth quarter, Evans scored twice in a 26-second span.
After Jamerson Turner caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Cassedy with 5:35 to go, Blake Lane caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Cassedy seconds later.
After rushing for just 7 yards a week prior in a loss to Lakeside, Evans won despite rushing for only 27 yards on 25 carries.
The Knights forced four turnovers by the Panthers.
Lions advance in playoffs
Augusta Christian gave up a touchdown less than a minute into its South Carolina Independent School Association first-round playoff game.
The early points were all the Lions would allow, and they did just enough on offense to earn a 9-7 victory over Ben Lippen.
After Ben Lippen took the lead 56 seconds in on a 61-yard touchdown run by Tyler Renew, the Lions broke through in the second quarter.
With 8:25 to go before halftime, Brian Sweeting caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Roberson. The Lions missed the ensuing extra point, leaving them a point down.
In the fourth quarter, staring down a 31-yard field goal attempt with 5:35 remaining, Matt Rogers knocked it through for the winning score.
Roberson completed 12 of 17 pass attempts for 153 yards. He added 14 rushing yards.
Thomas Banks ran for 60 yards on nine carries.
The low-scoring game came after Ben Lippen won 40-34 earlier this season.
Augusta Christian advances to play at No. 1 ranked Hammond on Friday. The Skyhawks are unbeaten at 11-0.
Warriors' season ends
Grovetown's promising season came to an end on Friday as Washington County scored early and often in a 48-23 victory in a Region 3-AAA play-in game.
With the win, the Golden Hawks advance to the state playoffs.
Washington County went up 35-3 in the second quarter. For the game, the Golden Hawks rushed for more than 300 yards.
Grovetown opened Region 3B-AAA play 3-0, but lost its final three games against Richmond Academy, Thomson and Washington County.
Bulldogs win final game
A roller-coaster affair went Harlem's way as the Bulldogs earned a 27-26 victory over Glenn Hills.
Neither team could have advanced to the state playoffs with a victory.
Harlem got rushing touchdowns from Taylor Mills, Tre Price and Mikey McIntire. Taylor Camp also caught a 4-yard touchdown pass.
McIntire's 117 yards rushing helped Harlem run for 231 on the night.
Wolfpack lose in season finale
Wayne County matched its season high in points, earning a 42-15 win over Greenbrier.
Neither team could have advanced to the state playoffs with a victory.
It was the second loss in a row for Greenbrier, which fell to Statesboro a week earlier.
The Wolfpack finish the season at 3-7.
