Military college graduates

Army Col. Eric O. Schacht has graduated from the Naval War College, College of Naval Warfare in Newport, R.I. Schacht, an operations officer, is assigned to the Joint Task Force-North, Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. He has served in the military for 24 years. His wife, Amy, is the daughter of retired Col. John L. Motes and Susie Motes, both of Martinez.

Military deployments

Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. Bryan C. Murray has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a member of 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing, headquartered at Joint Base Balad, north of Baghdad. Five contingency units are attached to the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing. The service member is regularly assigned to 169th Fighter Wing at McEntire Air National Guard Base in Thomson. Murray, an F-16 fighter aircraft crew chief, has served in the military for 24 years. He is the son of Larry C. and Linda F. Murray of Dearing and the father of Taylor C. Murray and Hannah E. Murray of Dearing. He graduated from Thomson High School in 1985.

Navy Fireman Recruit Lindsey N. Tampling , daughter of Sharon R. and Robert Tampling of Martinez, recently reported for duty aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Roosevelt, based in Mayport, Fla. Tampling joined the Navy in May.

Air Force Academy trainees

Dylan D. Turner has entered Basic Cadet Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., to prepare for his first academic year at the academy. He is the son of Randy and Jodi Turner, of Appling, and a 2009 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Nicole A. Burdette has entered Basic Cadet Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., to prepare for her first academic year at the academy. Burdett is the daughter of Laurel Burdette, of Evans, and is a 2010 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Stephen M. Baker has entered Basic Cadet Training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., to prepare for his first academic year at the academy. Baker is the son of Patrick and Mary Baker, of Martinez, and a 2010 graduate of Evans High School.

Training graduates

Army Pvt. Meghan K. Cox has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. She is the daughter of Patricia Cox, of Evans, and sister of Kristen Carroll, of Augusta. Cox is a 2004 graduate of Lakeside High School, Evans.

Marine Corps Pfc. Josh W. Thompson , son of Sandra L. Leaf, of Grovetown, and John W. Thompson, of Stacy, Minn., recently graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Army Pvt. Nathaniel R. Scott has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Scott is the son of Nathan Scott, of Appling. and a 2008 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Army Pvt. Matthew T. Lindsey has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Pam Lindsey and Henry Lindsey, both of Thomson, and a 1996 graduate of Thomson High School.

Navy Seaman Brandon J. Pratt , son of Joan J. Pratt, of Appling, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Army Pvt. Curtis R. Blitch has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Sharon Blitch, of Hephzibah, and is a 2000 graduate of Harlem High School.

Army National Guard Pfc. Sean L. Dobson has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training. He is the son of Ernesto Dobson and stepson of Hollie Dobson, of Martinez, and a 2010 graduate of Lakeside High School.

Navy Seaman Nadin Tafro , son of Nermana and Rusmir Tafro, of Grovetown, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Tafro is a 2010 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Navy Seaman William H. Meyers, III , son of Theresa M. Mertsching, of Evans, and William H. Meyers Jr., of Bloomsbury, N.J., recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Army Reserve Pfc. Santoria J. Burrell has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. She is the daughter of Jarita Holman, of Evans, and a 2007 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Adam M. Cross , son of Lynn M. Scarbrough, of Monroe, N.C., and Rodney P. Cross, of Martinez, recently graduated from the Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

Army Pvt. Daniela A. Vasquez has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. She is the niece of Brigida Ramos of Grovetown, and a 2010 graduate of Evans High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Cassandra D. Brown , daughter of Elizabeth A. and Hoise S. Brown of Martinez, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Brown is a 2010 graduate of Lakeside High School.

Army Pvt. Jaques Hobbs has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Tamiko Hobbs of Martinez, and a 2009 graduate of Evans High School.

Army Pvt. Alyssa M. Dailey has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Dailey is the daughter of Clarence Dailey Jr. of Harvey, Ill., and Tanya Roberson of Evans.

Navy Ensign Nathan A. Whitelaw , son of Susan Whitelaw of Evans, recently received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Officer Training Center, Newport, RI. Whitelaw is a 2005 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Adara G. Story , daughter of Brenda G. Miller of Augusta, and Daniel A. Story Jr. of Martinez, recently graduated from the Individual Material Readiness List (IMRL) Asset Management School, Marine Aviaition Training Support Squadron-1, Meridian, Miss. Story is a 2004 graduate of Evans High School and joined the Marine Corps in March.

Army Reserve Pfc. David J. Andrews has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Arlesia Andrews of Martinez, and a 2010 graduate of Lakeside High School.

Army Pvt. Tyler M. Hooper has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Lavon Hill of Martinez.
