Lakeside up against stingy defense

Last week: 4-1

//

Season total: 32-14

Evans (5-4, 2-3) at Liberty County (2-7, 1-4)

Last week: Evans lost to Lakeside 30-0; Liberty County was beaten by Glynn Academy 26-22.

All-time: First meeting.

Evans has scored an average of 20.6 points per game and allowed 18.3; Liberty County has scored 13.2 and allowed 17.9.

These are two teams just playing out their season. Evans is coming off a very disappointing performance against Lakeside. The Knights struggled down the stretch and must play with a lot more passion than they showed last week if they want to get a win.

Liberty has struggled, too, but it did manage to stun Statesboro 29-0 in what is arguably the biggest upset in Class AAAA this year.

Greenbrier (3-2, 2-3) at Wayne County (4-5, 2-3)

Last week: Greenbrier lost to Statesboro 31-7; Wayne County lost to Ware County 28-13.

All-time: Greenbrier leads 3-1.

Last meeting: Greenbrier won 21-7 in 2007.

Greenbrier has scored 12.7 points and allowed 20.6; Wayne County has scored 23.6 and allowed 21.8.

Scott Reeder returned to the lineup last week for Greenbrier. He certainly makes it a better team, but Wayne County has the edge here.

Wayne County 27, Greenbrier 16

Grovetown (4-5, 3-2) at Washington Co. (6-2-1, 4-1)

Last week: Grovetown lost to Thomson 42-14; Washington County beat Cross Creek 49-0

All-time: First meeting.

Grovetown has scored 25.3 points and allowed 20.4; Washington County has scored 34.4 and allowed 12.8.

A playoff spot hangs in the balance in this matchup. The Warriors have had a good season but are facing an uphill challenge this week.

Grovetown has lost its past two games to Richmond Academy and Thomson by a combined 73-21. Washington County beat those same teams by a combined 65-18. Washington County's high-powered offense likely will be too much.

Washington County 41, Grovetown 20

Lakeside (4-5, 3-2) at Ware County (7-2, 4-1)

Last week: Lakeside blanked Evans 30-0; Ware County beat Wayne County 28-13.

All-time: Ware County leads 2-0.

Last meeting: Ware County won 21-7 in 2007.

Lakeside has scored 19.8 points per game and allowed 16.4; Ware County has scored 27 and allowed 7.7.

The Panthers played their hearts out last week in an impressive win over Evans, but they are facing one of the state's top defenses this week. The Gators have allowed only 69 points.

Ware County 16, Lakeside 10

Harlem (2-7, 1-4) at Glenn Hills (2-7, 1-4)

Last week: The Bulldogs lost to Josey 25-24; Glenn Hills fell to Hephzibah 32-25

All-time: The series is tied 5-5

Last meeting: Glenn Hills won 40-15 last year.

Harlem has scored 10.4 points per game and allowed 29.4; Glenn Hills has scored 22.2 and allowed 32.8.

Harlem has played much better of late and will give Glenn Hills all it can handle.

Glenn Hills 30, Harlem 24

Augusta Christian (6-4) at Ben Lippen

Last week: Augusta Christian was shut out 35-0 by Hammond.

Last meeting: Ben Lippen knocked off the Lions earlier this season 40-34.

The Lions are much different team than the unit that lost to Ben Lippen on Sept. 3. It is never easy to win on the road, but I think the Lions will get the win this time.

Augusta Christian 34, Ben Lippen 31
