Injuries factor into disappointing records

While some of our Columbia County teams have disappointing records, keep in mind Lakeside and Greenbrier, in particular, have been hit hard by injury this season.

Both teams lost their starting quarterback. Lakeside junior Mark Weidenaar was lost for the season before playing a down this year, while Greenbrier's Scott Reeder was off to a great start before going down in week three.

Also, Lakeside's top defensive player, Kendal Parker, has been out all season with a broken leg. Throw in the fact that Harlem is playing up a classification, and that makes for some tough circumstances.

Despite this, we have still had a number of players put up big numbers this season.

Running back Jahvon Hardrick has emerged as a workhorse for Greenbrier. Trevor Foreman has become Evans' go-to receiver. Matt Rogers at Augusta Christian and D.J. Tyson at Grovetown have become the county's most explosive players.

There are also several young players getting it done on the varsity level.

Grovetown running back Jamal Cummings and Augusta Christian quarterback Tyler Roberson have played well despite only being sophomores. It is fun to watch some of this kids see their hard work paying off.
