Hospital opens
Grand opening ceremonies for Doctors Hospital of Augusta will be Nov. 2-4, 1973.
The public is invited to attend the gala event Nov. 4, 1973, at which Dr. James H. Cavanaugh, associate director of domestic council in the White House, will be the principal speaker. The ceremonies include a flag-raising and ribbon-cutting, and will take place in front of the main entrance. They will be followed by guided tours of the six-story hospital.
Doctors Hospital is a 300-bed acute care facility built by American Medicorp, Inc. It is the first investor-owned hospital in the Central Savannah River Area.
Groundbreaking for the facility, located on 10 acres at Wheeler Road and the Bobby Jones Expressway, took place Feb. 6, 1972.
