Queen candidates

Four young women were chosen by the varsity football squad to seek the title of homecoming queen for Evans High School for 1966-67.

The competitors are Polly Ann Caldwell, Nancy Heard, Ginger Vernon and Joyce Elliott. The winner will be crowned during halftime exercises of Friday night's ball game at the Evans field by last year's queen, Brenda Gardner.

At Harlem High School, six young women are competing for the title of homecoming queen and will be chosen by a vote from the student body.

The competitors are Julia Cartledge, Andrea Anderson, Jackie Quinton, Betty Durden, Linda Huffman and Shirley Kuhn.

In addition, members of the junior class will serve as attendants for the festivities. They are Jerri LaCroix, Nancy Thompson, Vicki Roberts, Linda Kay, Deborah Gray and Susan Smith.

The queen will be crowned during homecoming activities at the Harlem Athletic Field on Friday, with the queen crowned by the reigning queen, Kay Bennett.

Grovetown sets election schedule

Citizens of Grovetown will go to the polls Dec. 7, 1966 to elect two city councilmen for two-year terms. Candidates will take office on Jan. 2, 1967.

The registration books for voters will be closed 20 days prior to the election, according to City Clerk James E. Williams.

Grads at Tech

Fourteen graduates of Columbia County schools are currently enrolled at Augusta Area Technical School.

Graduates of Harlem High School are William Robins, Edgar Davis, Mary Fulcher and Floyd Payne.

Graduates of Evans High School are Thomas F. Brooks, David Buckley, Ronald Gibson, Angus Key, Jerry Jennings, Dennis Johnson, Robert King, Bruce Taylor, Robert Russell and Thomas Scoggins.

Legion dues needed

Evans American Legion Post 192 is asking all members and persons wishing to become members to submit their dues to either G.C. Sanders, post commander, or Ralph Powell, adjutant.

Sanders said unless 50 paid members are on record, the post is in danger of losing its charter.
