Retreat Spa and Salon in Evans is offering spa treatments for a cause: breast cancer research.

Cut for a Cure, set for Monday, is a special event salon owners devised four years ago to celebrate the salon's anniversary.

"With it being the month of October, it was perfect to do it for breast cancer (research), especially with all the women who come through here," said co-owner Carlene Nelson.

From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., the salon is offering hair cuts, nail polish color changes, chair massages, facial waxing, make-up and maybe even some pink hair extensions for a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

"Everything is a donation that day," Nelson said. "It is a good day. We have a good time with it."

The day of events, held at the salon at 4250 Washington Road, will include a raffle for gift baskets of Estee Lauder and Aveda products. The Shepeard Community Blood Center Bloodmobile and the mobile mammography unit from University Hospital's Breast Health Center also will be available at the salon.

New this year, Nelson said, the salon has been collecting funds for the research foundation all month by hanging pink bras in the yards of area residents. Since the beginning of October, residents made donations to send one of the three bra-laden lines to someone else's yard.

"We have the bras on a clothesline and we're calling it 'Hung Out by Retreat,'" Nelson said. "So that's been fun. This is the first year we've done that."

The clotheslines are being moved to Retreat, where they will accessorize the front yard during Cut for a Cure.
