Editor:For 16 years, John Welch managed the Euchee Creek Library just fine. Prior to that, he worked for more than four years in the library system. This gives Welch more than 20 years of library science experience, plus a degree in history. That he managed the Euchee Creek Library exceptionally well is verified by the overwhelming public support he enjoys.

On vacation
Carter Daly, 8, and his parents, Gretchen and Michael Daly, of Evans, attended the Augusta GreenJackets game on July 2. Carter threw out the first pitch. The game served as a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. More than $600 was raised that night for JDRF. Carter, a Type 1 diabetic, loves baseball and was thrilled to get a hat signed by the GreenJacket players.

Celebrating completion
County officials participated in a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the completion of phase two of the Canal Headgates National Heritage Area at Savannah Rapids Park. The area features covered picnic pavilions and a road along Reed Creek that leads to the footbridge over the canal.
