That sure sets the bar high.

With its first full year under its belt, Grovetown High School was eligible for the first time to enter personnel in the county's Teacher of the Year and Media Specialist of the Year competitions.
Done, and done. Math teacher Vicki Tarleton is the 2010-11 Columbia County Teacher of the Year, and Angela Dallis is the Columbia County Media Specialist of the Year.
The media specialist honors are quite fitting for Dallis, who helped design her school's library. Getting in on the ground floor in this case was a significant boost.
Teacher of the Year honors in Columbia County are awarded after a tough process. Each school's staff chooses its nominees, and an observation team from outside the schools then chooses five county finalists. Then, a team from outside the county observes the finalists in action and recommends a winner.
For both Tarleton and Dallis, the individual honors are spectacular. For Grovetown High School, it sets a high standard for the new school's bright future - and sets the bar high for other schools seeking academic honors.
