Greenbrier High School will hold Octoberfest on Oct. 23. The event, which will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., includes a car and bike show, a chili cook-off, a yard sale with spaces to rent, a silent auction, a basketball camp for children in third to fifth grade, and entertainment and concessions. Volleyball info
The information meeting for the CSRA Heat Volleyball Club will be Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Hull Fine Arts Center at Augusta Prep. Traveling teams and developmental clinics for girls in grades 4-12 will be discussed. Tryouts start Nov. 7. Basketball camp
Greenbrier High School will hold its Basketball Mini-Camp for boys and girls in grades 3-5 on Oct. 23. The camp will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the school's gymnasium. The cost is $25 per child. Those attending should wear basketball shoes, a T-shirt and shorts and should bring a water bottle. Golf tournaments
The Augusta Jewish Community Center will hold the 2010 Jay Weinberger Matzah Ball Golf Tournament on Oct. 17 at Bartram Trail Golf Club. Registration fee is $100 per player or $400 for a team of four. Registration will start at noon, and a shotgun start will follow at 1 p.m. Hole sponsorship is a $125 donation. Online sign-up for playing or hole sponsorship is available at augustajcc.org. There will be door prizes and a family dinner/awards ceremony after the tournament.
The sixth annual Junior League of Augusta Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 22 at Jones Creek Golf Club. The cost is $500 per foursome, and all proceeds will support the Junior League's children's health initiatives and other community projects. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., and there will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Lunch will be served before play. Food will be provided by Fatz Cafe. A live auction and buffet dinner will be held from 7-9 p.m. and will feature musical entertainment. Bartram Trail Golf Club will be holding beginner, advanced and workout clinics for children ages 6-14. Beginner clinics will be held Monday and Oct. 18 and 25 from 4-5 p.m. and advanced clinics (for advanced players only) will be held Thursday and Oct. 14, 21 and 28 from 4-5 p.m. Both will cover all aspects of the golf swing: driving, iron play, short game and putting. Players should bring their own golf clubs. The workout clinics will be held Monday and Oct. 18 and 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. It will be a fast-paced workout, and players should wear workout attire with running shoes. Each of the three types of clinics cost $30 for all four sessions or $10 per individual session. Boating safety
The Savannah River Sail and Power Squadron is conducting free vessel safety checks to verify that your boat has the required safety equipment and documentation.
