The Columbia County Orchestra Association has added a concert featuring string instruments to its recital series.

The Magellan String Quartet will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday inside the Augusta Christian Schools auditorium at 470 Furys Ferry Road in Martinez.
"It is our commitment and belief that it's important to do something to support local musicians, but also to provide opportunities for people to hear local music," said Rob Nordan, music director of the orchestra association.
The quartet is made up of violinists Jason Economides and Jonathan Aceto, violist Carl Purdy and cellist Ruth Berry. The musicians formerly performed as the resident string quartet at Georgia Southern University.
The concert will include pieces from composers Johann Pachelbel and Arvo Part and other music, Nordan said. The program is titled "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed."
"One of the things that they will use in the program is a concept called theme and variations," Nordan said. "You'll hear a theme that may or may not be familiar, and then they will vary it in different ways."
General admission tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the door or reserved at the orchestra association's Web site at www.columbiacco.org. The school's auditorium seats about 250 people. Admission is free for children, students, music educators, and active duty and retired military personnel.
The orchestra association will hold a horns concert in February and a winds program in March.
