Halloween is on Oct. 31. Again. No, really.

Fall is here again, so it's that time of year when public officials declare that Halloween will be celebrated on Halloween.

//

As in Oct. 31.

For various reasons, most of which make sense only if you've suffered a recent blow to the head, the county's 3-1-1 information operators each year receive calls from people wanting to know when their kids can trick or treat.

While it's obvious some people have far too much faith in government, the fact remains that holidays are set by the calendar, not by official decree. Even so, a county committee has it on its agenda Tuesday to confirm that, indeed, Halloween this year falls on Oct. 31, just as it did last year, and will next year, and the next.

Mark your calendar.
