Tennis tourney

The 2010 PRC Fall Classic tennis tournament will be held Sept. 16-19 at Petersburg Racquet Club in Martinez. The tournament features men's and women's doubles in 2.5-5.0 divisions and mixed doubles in 5.0-9.0 divisions. The cost is $40 plus a TennisLink fee and covers two events. The tournament is sanctioned by the USTA, and all registration is handled online. Those interested can register at www.usta.com or www.prctennis.com. The PRC Fall Classic serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2010 USTA Georgia Tournament of Champions. For information, call the club at (706) 860-9288.

Family Y signups

Registration is still being held at the Marshall Family Y for flag football and cheerleading for ages 5-14 and coed lacrosse for ages 7-15. Regular registration for lacrosse and late registration for flag football and cheerleading will run through Sunday. The season starts in October. Regular-season games will be played on Saturdays. The cost for each sport is $55 for members and $75 for nonmembers, plus $10 for late registration. There will be no refunds after the first week of games. Players sought

The Georgia Rockers Fast Pitch Organization will be holding tryouts Sept. 26 for the 10-Under travel team's 2011 season. The tryouts will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Patriots Park Softball Complex. The Columbia County Chaos boys travel baseball team is seeking players for the upcoming season. Experienced players are preferred. Players must be 11 or younger as of May 1, 2010. For information, contact Trevor Adkins at (706) 284-7379.

The Georgia Lightning 12-U travel baseball team is having a tryout for the upcoming season. Players cannot turn 13 before May 1. For tryout dates and information, contact Billy Kelley at (706) 825-9898.

The 10-U Georgia Spikes travel baseball team is seeking additional players, preferably with pitching experience, for the 2010-11 season. Players must not turn 11 before May 1. For information, contact DeWayne Smoak at (706) 513-1494.

The Columbia County Volcanoes 11-U travel baseball team is looking for a pitcher for the upcoming season. Players must try out and cannot have turned 11 before May 1. Golf

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta will hold the 2010 Charity Golf Classic on Monday and the accompanying Red Shoe Golf Ball on Saturday. Both events will be at West Lake Country Club. The tournament features an 11 a.m. shotgun start. The cost of $250 per person or $1,000 for a four-person team covers golf, lunch, range balls, contests, and team and individual prizes. Sponsorships are available for the tournament. The Red Shoe Golf Ball runs from 7-10 p.m. and features dinner, a silent auction, live music, games, a raffle, prizes and a red shoe contest. The third annual Fellowship Golf Outing benefiting the Gospel Water Branch Community Development Corp. Inc. and Columbia County Cares Inc. will be held Monday at Bartram Trail Golf Club. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start, with check-in from 11-11:45 a.m. and lunch at noon. The format is a four-man best ball. The cost is $60 per golfer and includes range balls, cart, greens fee, lunch and awards. Those interested can sign up online at gospelwater.org/golf_outing. Sponsorships are available. The Lakeside High School Cheerleading/Track Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 2 at Applewood Golf Course. The deadline to register is Sept. 27. There will be a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. The format is a four-man Lauderdale, and the cost is $40 per person, $160 per team, or $135 for a team with a hole sponsor (total of $235 for the team). Lunch can be purchased for an additional $10 at noon. There will be prizes, awards and a raffle. Hole sponsorships are available, or businesses can get involved by donating raffle or prize items. Bartram Trail Golf Club will be holding beginner, advanced and workout clinics for children ages 6-14 throughout October. Beginner clinics will be held Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 4-5 p.m. and advanced clinics (for advanced players only) will be held Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 4-5 p.m. Both will cover all aspects of the golf swing -- driving, iron play, short game and putting -- and players should bring their own golf clubs. The workout clinics will be held Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and will feature instruction on an effective workout routine to increase core strength, stability, flexibility and power in the golf swing. It will be a fast-paced workout, and players should wear workout attire with running shoes. Each of the three types of clinics are $30 for all four sessions or $10 per individual session. Boating safety

The Savannah River Sail and Power Squadron will hold America's Boating Course on Sept. 18 at Fire Station No. 1, at Broad Street and East Boundary in Augusta, and Sept. 25 at Sutton Marine, 914 Park Ave. SE in Aiken. Each course lasts from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and costs $29. A family member can share a manual for an additional $15. Lunch is included. Topics will include boat education, boating safety, and boating law and regulation. The Savannah River Sail and Power Squadron is conducting free vessel safety checks to verify that your boat has the required safety equipment and documentation.
