Outdoor movie series starts Saturday

Families can enjoy three movie nights underneath the stars in September at the Columbia County Amphitheater.

Guests are invited to the fifth annual Screen on the Green, featuring three Saturday showings on a 30-foot-tall inflatable screen. The following movies will be shown during the series: E.T . on Saturday, Charlotte's Web on Sept. 18 and The Blind Side on Sept. 25.

"It's very popular," said county Community Events Specialist Keela Fruehling. "People have been asking if we're going to bring it back."

Each movie will start at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater, which can seat more than 1,000 guests.

Admission is $2 for adults and free for children ages 3 and younger. Tickets will be available at the gates.

The event is geared toward families and offers a relaxed atmosphere for those wanting to enjoy the cooler weather outdoors, Fruehling said.

"Now that it's cooling off, it should be really pleasant," she said.

Moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to the outdoor venue, but alcohol and coolers are not permitted inside the gates. Concessions will be sold on site.
