The drive-in movie concept gets a watery spin this weekend.

Crowds headed to Thurmond Lake for Labor Day weekend can catch a summer blockbuster Saturday while lounging in their boats.

Wildwood Park, at 3780 Dogwood Lane off Washington Road in Appling, will hold a "boat-in" movie night, open to campers and those traveling in boats and cars.

The event serves as the last hurrah of summer, said park program director Jeb Bell.

"This is the last real big weekend of the year," he said.

Avatar will be shown on a 30-foot outdoor screen near the park's mega-ramps.

The idea for the event came about a month ago as a way to promote Wildwood Park and surrounding businesses at the lake, Bell said.

The campsites at Wildwood Park already are full for the holiday weekend, said Bell, who anticipates a good turnout for the movie night.

"We're definitely looking at doing it again," he said. "We're thinking possibly doing it on a regular basis next year, maybe during spring and summer."

The movie will start at dusk -- about 8:15 p.m.

"Dominos will be here and they'll be serving drinks and pizza," Bell said.

The movie is free, but there is a $3 fee per vehicle to enter the park. For details, call (706) 541-0586.
