Dean's List

The following local students were named to the spring 2010 Dean's List at the University of the South: William David Holloway of Evans, son of Christine and David P. Holloway; and, Margaret Haley Shepherd of Evans, daughter of Lynda and Ernest H. Shepherd.

Pomona degree

Amanda Brooks Peel of Martinez has graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., with a bachelor of arts in chemistry. While a student, Peel received the National Institutes of Health Research Training Award, earned Phi Beta Kappa honors, won the Stanley D. Prize in chemistry, and graduated magna cum laude. She is the daughter of Marc W. and Kim K. Peel of Martinez. She is a graduate of Augusta Preparatory Day School.

Darton Dean's List

Michael T. Maples of Martinez was named to the Dean's List at Darton College in Albany, Ga., for the spring semester.

GEICO award

Carol Skenes of Evans, a student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, is one of 10 college students from Georgia and South Carolina named GEICO Achievement Award recipients, earning $1,000 for next year's educational pursuits. The GEICO awards are given to students who have excelled academically in business, computer science, mathematics or a related program and have demonstrated leadership in their campus or community.

Georgia Tech honors

The following students earned the distinction of Faculty Honors for spring 2010 at the Georgia Institute of Technology: Appling : Tabatha Pilgrim; Grovetown : Jessica Blair; Martinez : Kenneth Adams, Alice Chan, Paul Park, Patrick Tynan; Evans : Katherine Croft, Kasey Hardin, Charles Hunter, Alexandra Kimm and Carol Skenes.
