Band to perform
The world-famous Parris Island Marine Band will again provide a band concert as the climax of the current Evenings in the Appleby Garden series on Aug. 27, 1968 at 8:30 p.m. This will be the 10th consecutive year that the popular band has presented the grand finale of the Appleby Garden series. The concert will be held in the garden of the Appleby Branch library on the corner of Walton Way and Johns Road.
Included in the 21 numbers to be played by the band are such favorites as Navy Hymn, Georgia Girl, Star Spangled Spectacular, and Original Dixieland Concerto.
First Lt. Charles R. Pearson, a former enlisted man with more than 17 years of active service, is now the director of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Band.
The Parris Island Marine Band is one of the most renowned groups of its kind in the United States.
