Candidates unlikely to run if they're subjected to 'abuse' by the media

I am disappointed that the editor of The Columbia County News-Times throws so much contempt and hatred at the opponents of our present county leadership. Challenging political leadership with opposing ideas is the American way, is it not?

Barry Paschal's July 25 column called supporters of Brett McGuire "rabid." Rabies causes the mind to go crazy. From that sorry 21 percent of the votes who did their duty, there were about 6,100 people supporting the McGuire challenge. Were they all dumb and misguided? Dumb people don't vote at all on their own. If Paschal has a big problem with certain letter-writers, clear up their issues. But to call people who stand up for their ideas "politically dead," in so many words, for all the future?

Nationally, most of us conservatives promote term limits because of common sense and congressional abuse. In Paschal's July 25 column, the last sentence says, "And we wonder why more people don't run for office and why so few people vote." Which candidate wants to step out there to be abused by the media and others?
