A performance Friday by Christian artist Bill Steely will kick off a new August concert series in Columbia County.
"This is the first time we've done Christian concerts," said county Community Events Specialist Keela Fruehling. "We've done all the genres of music in the past."
The Christian Concert Series continues with the group Bone Prophet on Aug. 13 and singer Warren Barfield on Aug. 20. Both performances will be at the Columbia County Amphitheater behind the Evans library and will also include opening acts.
The gates open at 6 p.m., and each of the shows starts at 7.
"I really think it's going to go over well," Fruehling said. "It seems like something that the citizens of Columbia County have really been wanting and asking for."
Fruehling said the artists produce contemporary Christian music that appeals to people of all ages.
If the concerts are successful, she said, the county will continue the series in the future.
"We've gotten a lot of great feedback," Fruehling said. "People are excited."
Admission to the concert costs $5, and concessions will be available for purchase.
Concert-goers are urged to bring blankets and chairs, but alcohol is not permitted.
