I have watched the race for the chairman of the Columbia County Commission from the sidelines while I made my decision on whom to support in the race. Because I have friends on both sides, it has not been an easy decision.
After viewing the increasingly dramatic and hysteria-based advertising of the challenger, I have decided that it is in Columbia County's best interest to retain Ron Cross as chairman of the Columbia County Commission.
Why? Very simply the sky is not falling in on Columbia County.
Our county government is functioning effectively and efficiently. Columbia County has one of the best financial ratings in Georgia; less than a handful of counties are in better financial condition.
Columbia County residents continue to enjoy a low crime rate and effective law enforcement; along with excellent fire and emergency services.
We also enjoy quality recreation and leisure opportunities, allowing us to host many softball and baseball tournaments and also the recently announced NCAA soccer championships.
Columbia County is a community that people want to live in, which leads to increased opportunities for recruiting, attracting and retaining new businesses.
In short, our quality of life has continued to improve under Cross' leadership. Is there room for improvement? Of course! In any organization, business or government entity, there are always opportunities to identify efficiencies and cost savings. I expect that under Cross' continued leadership, our county government will continue to look for ways to deliver quality services to Columbia County residents and taxpayers in the most cost effective manner.
I hope that you will join me in voting for Ron Cross on Tuesday.
