Faulkner graduate
Hannah Brooke Hastings , daughter of Jeff and Barbara Hastings of Martinez, was presented as valedictorian at Faulkner University's April 30 graduation ceremony in Montgomery, Ala.
Hastings graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English with an emphasis in journalism. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and achieved President's List status each semester. Hastings was a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society and received the English Department academic award.
Presidential Scholar finalist
John Klement , a graduating senior at Greenbrier High, has been named one of approximately 560 semifinalists in the 2010 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program based on superior achievement, leadership qualities, personal character, and involvement in community and school activities.

Eric Raymond Franklin , an undergraduate from Martinez, has been designated as a Founders Scholar by Indiana University Bloomington for demonstrating and sustaining academic excellence.
SRR Awards Educational Grants
Savannah River Remediation, the liquid waste contractor at Savannah River Site, announced that 10 area schools have been awarded educational grants totaling $15,314 to recognize and support excellence in teaching. Alexander Ridlon of Martinez earned a 4.0 for the spring semester at Georgia Southern University. He is currently enrolled as a full-time student majoring in business.
Mercer law grad
Wesley Carr Turner of Martinez, a 2002 graduate of Lakeside High School and son of Mr. and Mrs. Sammy C. Turner, received the Juris Doctor degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University on May 1, 2010. He graduated Magna Cum Laude. In August, he will become a clerk for the Toombs Judicial Circuit and will work in Thomson, Georgia.
Washington and Lee degree
Bena M. Tshishiku of Martinez, received the bachelor of science degree from Washington and Lee University on May 27, 2010 and received honor roll status. Tshishiku majored in Mathematics . Tshishiku graduated summa cum laude. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene M. Tshishiku of Martinez.
Davidson College graduate
Rachel R. Marks of Evans, graduated from Davidson College on May 16, 2010. She is a studio art major with an academic concentration in premedical studies and earned the bachelor of arts degree magna cum laude. After graduation, Marks plans to work as a technician in a medical office in Augusta while applying for medical school. Marks is the daughter of Dr. Stuart and Susan Marks and is a graduate of Augusta Preparatory Day School.
NSHSS award
William Sessions of Martinez, was selected for the $1,000 National Society of High School Scholars award from among 12,000 applicants for excellence in academics, leadership, and community service and is invited to the NSHSS recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C. on June 25, 2010.

In addition, McCladdie earned a Gold Star for achieving a 3.7 or higher GPA. McCladdie is seeking a bachelor of science degree in physical education. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry McCladdie of Martinez.
