Arsenal tryouts

Augusta Arsenal Soccer Club will hold tryouts for boys and girls ages 13-19 today and Thursday. In addition, a makeup tryout for anyone who could not attend the previous days will be held Monday. Savannah Riverkeeper will play host to an evening paddle on June 17. A donation of $15 is requested for each participant. The 90-minute tour will launch from the landing at River Island community at 6 p.m. Boaters will paddle toward the Fury's Ferry bridge and explore Deep Step, a former cypress swamp. Paddlers are encouraged to bring their own boat. Canoe and kayak rentals are available through Broadway Bait and Tackle in Augusta, (706) 738-8848. The Savannah River Sail and Power Squadron (SRSPS) is conducting free vessel safety checks. These are checks of your boat to verify that it has the required safety equipment and documentation. Summer camps

The Grovetown High School cheerleading team will hold a Mothers' Day Out on Thursday and a Parents' Date Night on Friday. Both events will be held in the school's gym -- the Mothers' Day Out from 8 a.m. to noon and the Parents' Date Night from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sign-up for both events is available to the first 60 children in kindergarten through fifth grade (boys and girls). Cheerleaders will play games with the children, and snacks and drinks are included. The fee is $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child in a family for each event.
