Text messages bring arrest
A Martinez man was arrested Sunday after a woman said he sent her nearly 100 text messages in less than two days.
Daniel Conover, 44, of the 400 block of Old Evans Road, was charged with harassing phone calls. He was held Monday in Columbia County Detention Center on an $1,100 bond, according to jail records.
The woman called police Sunday evening after having received 97 text messages and numerous calls from Conover since 1 a.m. Saturday.
She said she had been a witness at a May 19 Magistrate Court case regarding Conover's arrest in February for disorderly conduct.
At the hearing, she said, Magistrate Bobby Christine ordered Conover to have no contact with her.
Police found Conover at a hotel near Interstate 20, where he was arrested.
Lookouts help steal clothes
Police arrested a Tennille, Ga., woman Friday , accusing her of using lookouts to shoplift from the Evans Walmart.
Tamara Lynn Troisi, 18, was charged with theft by shoplifting. She was released from Columbia County Detention Center early Saturday after posting an $1,100 bond, according to jailers.
A loss prevention employee of the store at 4469 Washington Road told police that about 1:15 p.m., he saw Troisi conceal several items in her purse, including an infant's dress, shoes and cover-up, and two bottles of tanning lotion, all worth $48.95.
The employee told police that a man and another woman acted as lookouts for Troisi. The employee stopped all three on their way out of the store.
Troisi was charged and the other two were released, but all three were ordered to stay away from Walmart property.
