Julia Foley Morgan will present a ballet solo, Lord of the Dance , on the theme of the coming of God's Spirit on Pentecost Sunday, at the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services today at Church of the Holy Comforter, 473 Furys Ferry Road, Martinez.
New location
Columbia County's 10th annual Red, White and Blue Veterans Celebration will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Columbia County Amphitheater in Evans, featuring performances from the Augusta Chorale and the U.S. Air Force Reserve Band, with fireworks at 9 p.m. For information, call (706) 312-7191.
Scholarships
June 1 is the deadline to submit applications for the Columbia County Foundation for Children College Scholarships. Applicants must be residents of Columbia County and planning to attend college or technical school. Scholarships are need-based, and students are eligible to apply up to age 23. Giant yard sale
The Rotary Club of Columbia County's Giant Columbia County Yard Sale will be held June 5 at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. Vendor spaces cost $25. For information, call Connie Redmond at (706) 863-5500.
Youth program
A volunteer/community service program for rising ninth- through 12th-grade students will be available this summer at the Helping Hands Thrift Store, 6347 Columbia Road, operated by the Columbia County Foundation for Children, June 1-July 29 for three days per week. Park painting
Reed Creek Park will hold a nature painting class for children 5 and older 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $3 per child, free to members. Registration is required by calling (706) 210-4027.
Teens leadership
The University of Georgia Toastmaster Teen Leadership Program will be held 1-4:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and June 1-3 at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, with graduation June 3. The $45 fee includes workbook, UGA certificate of achievement, award and graduation dinner. To register, call (706) 868-3413.
