In reference to her recent letter regarding the lack of sidewalks and upkeep of the roads in the Old Evans Road area of Martinez, I must agree with my sister, Lisa Childs. I have lived in this area for more than 35 years and I am still waiting for the sidewalks.

I grew up here, and then bought a new house here, and had a child, because I thought that surely we would have sidewalks for her to use to go to South Columbia Elementary School. But no! Then, before she was old enough, the "powers that be" demolished the playground in our neighborhood where my brothers played ball and my nephew went to play every day. So now the children have to play in the traffic. They really cannot play at the fire station.

No wonder that poor man (the pedestrian) was hit. There is not much room to walk off the side of the road.

I have voted since I was 18 and will continue to vote in every election until situations like this are taken care of. One day the people will be heard. Not everyone is living in "that" part of town. Get a clue, guys and gals! Plenty of voters live out here and we matter, too.
