Columbia County Planning commissioners gave preliminary plat approval Thursday for a 10-acre light-industrial lot near Grovetown.

The Horizon North Commercial Park, off International Parkway, consists of eight lots on 10.42 acres.

No businesses have located in the commercial park, but interest has increased in the last year, Columbia County Development Authority Executive Director Troy Post said Friday.

"There are some projects that are being considered and being discussed," Post said.

Post said he couldn't release more details because no plans have been finalized.

A light-industrial zoning allows for certain types of industrial developments in areas where conventional industrial business aren't encouraged because of the site's close proximity to residential, recreational or commercial establishments.

In other business, a preliminary plat was approved for 71 lots in sections one and two of Kensey Park at Canterbury Farms off Chamblin Road.

A minor revision for the Willow Lake planned unit development also was approved.

The change regarded a setback reduction for one lot in the undeveloped section of Jones Creek.

Also at the meeting, a request to rezone two properties on Flowing Wells Road to general commercial was tabled until the April 15 meeting because property owners were not present to answer questions from planning commissioners.

The rezoning is necessary to bring Lazar's Trailers and Welding and a used car sales lot into conformity with county code.
