The American Red Cross of Augusta will hold a lifeguard training class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday for ages 15 and older at the Riverwood Plantation pool in Evans. Cost is $185. For information, call the Red Cross at (706) 724-8481 or go to www.arcaug.org.

Teacher award

Friday is the deadline for nominations for the CSRA Environmental Science Education Cooperative's CSRA Environmental Teacher of the Year Award, which carries a $500 prize. The contest is open to all grades for public or private schools. For information, go to www.csraesec.org.

Tax prep at fort

The Tax Center at Fort Gordon at the Courtyard, on Brainard Avenue, is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, noon to 8 p.m. Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. For information, call (706) 787-1040.
