Byrd named STAR student

p>Lakeside High School senior Andrew Byrd was named the Region 7 STAR student during a banquet Tuesday in Thomson.

STAR students and their teachers from 13 counties were honored at the banquet at First Baptist Church.

The Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition title is awarded annually to students who score the highest on the SAT and are in the top 10 percent of their class. Andrew scored a perfect 2400 on the exam.

Each STAR student chooses a STAR teacher, and Andrew picked Lakeside High physics teacher John Cato.

Andrew plans to attend Georgia Tech next year and major in physics. He will represent the region at the state STAR banquet next month in Atlanta.
