Columbia County elementary schools are registering children for kindergarten.
//
Schools are registering new pupils on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Registration ends April 2.
To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1.
To register, a pupil will need his or her original birth certificate; Social Security card; proof of residency; a state certificate of immunization; and a state certificate of eye, ear and dental examination less than 1 year old. Those certificates are available from private physicians, Fort Gordon medical personnel or the county health department.
Parents should register their children at the elementary school in the designated school zones in which they reside.
For zoning information, search the Columbia County schools Web site at www.ccboe.net. Click the links for "Student Support," then "Transportation," and finally, "Find Your Bus Stop."
Elementary pupils new to the Columbia County school system also are requested to register prior to April 2. The first- through fifth-graders should register at the elementary school in the designated school zones in which they reside and will need to provide proof of residency and Social Security card.
Also needed will be a copy of the most recent report card.
All immunization requirements should be up to date.
