Tomato class

Columbia County Agriculture Education teachers will offer a tomato growing class and largest tomato contest at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Greenbrier High School. Call Doug Knox at (706) 650-6040, Phillip Price at (706) 863-1198 ext. 4059, or John Joyner at (706) 556-5980 ext. 4248.

Newcomers

The Augusta Area Newcomers Organization will hold a luncheon and auction at 10 a.m. Thursday, and a welcome coffee at 11 a.m. March 30. For information, e-mail hospitality@augustanewcomers.com or call Laura Dobbins at (706) 364-6824.

Jazz series

The Colors of Jazz series begins Wednesday with Karen Gordon and Garden City Jazz at 7:30 p.m. at the Augusta Jewish Community Center in Evans. Future performances include Dr. Robert Foster, April 22, and Geraldine Eisenberg, May 13. Tickets cost $10 per show, or $25 for the series. For information, go to www.columbiacountyjazz.com.

Boat raffle

The South Columbia Elementary PTO is holding a raffle for a battery-powered catamaran with trailer. Tickets cost $2 and are available in the school office. The boat can be seen Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The drawing will be held during the PTO family dinner Friday.

Golf tourney

Augusta Christian Schools will hold its annual golf tournament Friday at Bartram Trail Golf Club, with lunch at noon followed by a 1:15 p.m. shotgun start. Proceeds will benefit the school's athletic program. Corporate and individual participants are welcome, and corporate hole sponsors are needed.
