STAR students from each county high school will vie for the county STAR student honor during a ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Harlem Woman's Club on East Milledgeville Road.

The honor is awarded to the high school senior with the highest SAT score of the school year.

STAR students from public schools include Christina Snider of Evans High; John Klement of Greenbrier High; Trinity Bass of Grovetown High; and Andrew Byrd of Lakeside High.

This year, for the first time, Harlem High produced two students who tied for STAR student status: Amber Colquitt and Zach Smith.

Augusta Preparatory Day School's STAR student is Daniel K. Hull, and Kadie Cheeks won STAR student at Augusta Christian Schools.

Each student gets to choose a STAR teacher from their school. Typically, it's a teacher who inspired them to achieve academic excellence.

STAR teachers to be recognized Thursday are Reid Hall of Evans High; Kathy Manz of Greenbrier High; Mary Campbell of Grovetown High; John Cato of Lakeside High; Stephanie Arrington and Tim Easler of Harlem High; Timothy Shafer of Augusta Prep; and Amanda Schick of Augusta Christian.

Last year's STAR student for Columbia County, Greenbrier High graduate Emily Bragg, went on to win the district award for Area 7. District winners will go on to vie for the state STAR student honor.
