Evans Christian Academy is another step closer to returning to Columbia County after approval of a rezoning Thursday.
//
The county Planning and Zoning Board approved a zoning revision for 213 S. Old Belair to allow the school to operate in the site now occupied by Berea Baptist Church. The 5.7-acre property is zoned special district.
If the zoning receives final approval from the county commission, the school would purchase the Grovetown property to operate a school for its 50 students and 20-member staff.
The school has been meeting at Crossbridge Baptist Church in Augusta since leaving its original location at InFocus Church in Evans.
Berea Baptist intends to move and hold services where Redeemer Presbyterian Church is located on Evans to Locks Road. A new church for Redeemer is under construction at William Few Parkway and Clanton Road and could be finished by May.
In other business, the zoning board approved final plats for Chamblin Ridge Section III-A and Ashbrooke Section 5-A, both near Grovetown. A preliminary plat for Ellington II at Canterbury Farms for 37 lots off Chamblin Road also was passed.
Commissioners also accepted a minor planned unit development revision for 32 acres on Coventry Avenue in the Ellington II subdivision. The number of lots in the subdivision was changed from 35 to 37.
