County should eliminate newsletter in water bills, or allow equal time

I am a candidate for chairman of the Columbia County Commission, and I am running to cut taxes, improve county efficiency and to put our local government on the taxpayers' side.

I am requesting that The Columbia County News-Times and all citizens demand that the Columbia County Commission eliminate the monthly, taxpayer-funded advertising for Chairman Ron Cross, a declared candidate for re-election. This advertising is by way of the inserts to our monthly water bills with Cross' face and editorial comments boldly positioned on the front page.

The idea that the county government can advertise its own candidate to perpetuate the current regime should be appalling to all fair-minded people. I have made this same request to the Columbia County Commission, and also have requested permission to insert my own opinions and picture in the county mailouts if no changes are forthcoming.

Columbia County is the home of Ronald Reagan Drive, not Acorn Avenue.
