The men's ministry at Kiokee Baptist Church plans to liven up the corner of White Oak and Ray Owens roads Saturday.

The group organized the inaugural Male Sale, Bake Sale and Archery Turkey Shoot, designed to be an all-day event starting at 8 a.m.
"The name of the event was self-explanatory to one lady," said Hal Rowland, a ministry member at Kiokee Baptist. "As soon as she heard about it, she took out her checkbook and said she's been looking for one of those all her life."
The activities will take place at the former J.D. Howell Store, 5701 White Oak Road in Appling. Various products have been donated for a flea market and silent auction, which features high-value items such as a boat and a new all-terain vehicle, Rowland said.
Other items for sale include guns, power tools, hunting equipment and outdoor artwork. The silent auction ends at 4 p.m.
The idea for the day began about a year ago.
"It's a little of a down time with the weather and the season," Rowland said. "We just thought maybe there would be a way to attract some guys with guy stuff. It turned into something a lot bigger quickly."
An archery turkey shoot will be held for $5 a shot. The archer closest to the target will win a cash prize.
Desserts from the bake sale, pork loins and other foods will be available for purchase.
"We'll have some guys playing music all day long," Rowland said. "We're going to have a big bonfire out there Saturday night."
Proceeds will be used for activities and projects sponsored by Kiokee Baptist's men's ministry. These include the Appling Bowhunter's Festival in May; the Appling Opry, where area musicians hold monthly jam sessions; and the upkeep of the property's campground and archery range.
Rowland said he believes the event will attract several hundred people.
In addition, the public is welcome to join the group Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for a men's worship service and Sunday school class program, he said.
