The Lakeside High School girls basketball team endured a tough schedule earlier in the month, but they weren't going to let Tuesday's game at Grovetown slip away.

The Panthers made their free throws down the stretch and held off the Warriors for a 41-29 victory.

Grovetown had pulled within four with a little more than a minute remaining. Warriors senior Marianne Davignon then came away with a steal, but her 3-pointer to cut the lead to one was off the mark.

Lakeside started to attack the basket, and the Panthers made all eight of their free throws during the final minute. Carolyn Hennecken went to the line twice during the stretch, and Tishal Turknett and Chandra Wideman made two each.

Hennecken finished with 14 points and Lindsey Weidenaar added eight to lead the Panthers. Grovetown's Chade Martin scored eight points and Tyneshia Sewell added six.

The Warriors trailed by 11 at the half before pushing back. During the third quarter, they only allowed Lakeside a Weidenaar 3-pointer and trailed by four.

Sewell's basket with 6:55 left cut Lakeside's lead to two, but it was as close as the Warriors would come.

Augusta Christian 46, Heathwood Hall 30

Lindsey Banks scored 17 points and the Lions remained undefeated in region play by beating the Highlanders. Amaura Brandt scored 12 for Augusta Christian, which improved to 3-0 in Region I-AAA. Brandt made two 3-pointers. Two players scored nine points each to lead the Highlanders.

Josey 52, Harlem 25

Kenay Phillips led Josey with 17 points as the Eagles took out Harlem. Phillips' night included three 3-pointers. The Bulldogs got 11 points from Amanda Rogers and eight from Skye Slagle.

Gatewood 53, Augusta Prep 22

Eleven Gatewood players scored as the Gators rolled. Gatewood's Macy Malcom led all scorers with 11 points, and the team made four 3-pointers.
