A different level
The Level 6 team from Haydens Gymnastics Academy, of Evans, recently celebrated a successful competition season. The team brought home a fourth-place title at the Georgia State Competition in Roswell, Ga., in which they competed against almost 40 other teams. The team also won first place at the Cartersville, Ga., Nifty November Gymnastics Meet. Gymnasts from the team include (from left) Avery Williams, Montana Moreno, Caleigh Cox, Libby Newsome, Allisa Smith, Anna Brower, Julia Morris and Bailey Spencer. Eighty-six River Ridge Elementary pupils participated in a poster contest sponsored by the U.S. Forestry Service in collaboration with the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Children designed a poster for Woodsy Owl and Smokey Bear emphasizing their slogans ''Lend a hand -- Care for the land'' and ''Only you can prevent wildfires.'' Half the region schedule remained after Evans' game at rival Lakeside on Friday, but that didn't keep the Knights from playing with urgency. The Knights started fast and dispatched the Panthers, 67-52.
