- Harlem Library will hold an organizational meeting for a book club for adults at 2 p.m. today. Call Amanda at (706) 556-9795.

- The Columbia County libraries' coffee clubs with library director Mary Lin Maner will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Euchee Creek Library; and at 9 a.m. Jan. 26 in Harlem. Call (706) 863-1946.

Gardening topics

The Columbia County Extension Service Gardening at Lunch series resumes at 12:10 p.m. today at the Columbia County Library in Evans with a program on selecting and planting fruit trees. Future programs include pruning fruit trees and muscadines, Feb. 3. Call county Extension Agent Charles Phillips at (706) 868-3413.

At Reed Creek

Reed Creek Park in Martinez will hold a Forest Foray from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, and a tree identification program from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Friday. Both programs are for ages 5-older, with children accompanied by an adult. Cost is free for members, $2 per child for nonmembers. Registration is required. Call (706) 210-4027.

Dessert reception

The Augusta Jewish Federation's 2010 campaign will hold a dessert reception featuring mentalist Sidney Friedman at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Augusta Jewish Community Center, 898 Weinberger Way, off Furys Ferry Road in Evans. A donation of $10 is requested. Call (706) 228-3636.

GOP meeting

The Columbia County Republican Party will hold its county quarterly meeting at 7 a.m. Jan. 27 in the Columbia County Government Complex auditorium in Evans and elect officers. Go to www.columbiacountyrepublicanparty.org.
