Just a note on the article about the 96-year-old man on Columbia Road (as referenced in the Jan. 6 Police Blotter item, "Fraudulent workers burglarize home"):
... This is the third time he has been bothered with these individuals from the South Carolina village. The news should warn people about them. It takes all of about five minutes to clean house with you in the home. They prey on the elderly and widows and widowers.
They visited my father several years ago; that time they cut his phone line. The ring they took was 35 or 40 years old, given to him by my mother (no longer living). That item can never been replaced. The money was a Christmas present from his son, which he had just gotten that day. I had just counted it and put in his wallet before I left his home. About 30 minutes later, they showed up and knew exactly which room to go in.
They are evil and non-caring. They use the excuse of Georgia Power, cable companies, carpet/vinyl floor installers, home repair, painters, anything to get the homeowner's attention. They should be locked up for life. He does not deserve to be violated that way, and nor does anyone else.
It seems as if they are working Columbia County again. People need to be advised and watch for them. Two men traveling together with a large piece of vinyl flooring going to people's doors - call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, because they are up to no good and intend to rob the next poor soul.
