Concert features Purdy premier

Violist Carl Purdy's String Quartet No. 1 will make its world premier during a Saturday concert presented by Symphony Orchestra Augusta.

Symphony Orchestra Augusta Music Director Shizuo "Z" Kuwahara will present the Columbia County Music Series concert at the Jabez S. Hardin Performing Arts Center in Evans. The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature symphony principals Amy Marinello on bassoon and Ana Flavia Frazao on piano.

Marinello is the assistant professor of bassoon at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music. She holds a position as second bassoonist with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.

Frazao is a graduate of the federal University of Goias Brazil, and she later completed her studies at the Superior School of Kalsrue in Germany.

She is a professor at the UFG Brazil and has participated in tours in Europe, South America, the United States and Japan.

The SOA String Quartet also will perform and features violinists Laura Tomlin and Eliza Hesse, violist Carl Purdy and cellist Yanghee Lee.

Tickets for Saturday's concert cost $20 and can be purchased by calling the symphony office at (706) 826-4705 or by visiting the organization's Web site at www.soaaugusta.org.

Full-time students and military personnel with a valid I.D. can purchase tickets for $7 the night of the concert beginning at 6:30 p.m.
