It's time for Symphony Augusta to 'not interfere' with local group
I am writing to offer some observations and comments regarding the Symphony Orchestra Augusta's petition to be named the official orchestra of the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center and the official resident Symphony of Columbia County.

Obama's followers should recognize him as 'enemy of the state'
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's name is in a federal database of those with suspected ties to terrorists. His father told the American Embassy in Nigeria that he feared his son was a threat. For some reason, the Obama administration refused to add this fellow's name to the no-fly list.

Harlem mulls buying mayor's land for firehouse
Some Harlem city officials are considering purchasing a piece of property from the mayor to relocate a set of fire trucks away from the railroad tracks and create a headquarters for the city's Public Safety department.

Violist Carl Purdy's String Quartet No. 1 will make its world premier during a Saturday concert presented by Symphony Orchestra Augusta.

Builder works to revitalize residential neighborhood
Efforts to revitalize an older residential portion of Martinez are becoming increasingly visible as new homes sprout up in the area. In 2007, Joe Todd, of JHT Construction, started redeveloping a residential area on Avery Avenue off South Belair Road.

Bill and Marcia DeHaven experienced an early winter wonderland in the Austrian Alps in October. They visited Imperial Europe with sightseeing in Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria, including the cities of Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Salzburg.

I am starting the new year in a bad mood. My Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoffs and will not be able to defend their championship from a year ago. Also, I have to put up with the trash talk from all of my friends, who obviously ate paint chips when they were toddlers and are now Dallas Cowboys fans.

Andy Eberheart's path is not unlike that of Olympic superstar Michael Phelps. Both worked at their craft until they reached the top. For Eberheart, a Grovetown resident, the payoff came in December.
